BFBUno: Keeping Zen
Just when I was about to publish, from my the Blackberry WordPress app, today’s post, my phone got drained and poof! goes my unsaved work too! Ahh it seems the stars are going against me today. But no use crying over spilled milk, especially when it’s your fault anyway, right?
So moving on, instead of boring you with my personal mishaps, let me tell you a better story, the kind you’d want to tell yourself too during trying times. It’s pretty similar to giving yourself a pep talk in front of the mirror, something like having a “Winning” mantra, ala Charlie Sheen. Im talking about damage control.
First Aid. Like I said, stress and frustrations are everyday things. Although many would say to just shrug the low feeling off, I dont advise it. Shutting down emotionally as an instant reflex might numb you in the long run. Life is all about feeling, and feeling has always been and always will be a double edge sword. Whenever I get hit strong and bad, I let myself feel the boil of hurt or anger or sadness or disappointment. Then I just wait until the feeling dies down to a slow simmer. I learned that making decisions while in the middle of an emotional hurricane is disastrous! With practice, my recovery time got shorter. And then I make decisions with a clear head.
Do The Math. In my mind, I tend to create what if situations that stemmed from the current dilemma. I sort of do a mapping out or flow chart on what I should do next. Of course I dont follow it step by step, it just makes me feel better and more secure knowing I have a working plan. Not that I plan murders or anything like that!
Get a Hobby. Sometimes a quick fix is a distraction. Go painting, clubbing, singing, writing, or hunting. For trivial annoyances, I just do a few drags. For the serious ones, I find writing and then burning it (if its libelous) helps a lot. How can I forget retail therapy! The idea is to do something fun, please be law abiding, keep it legal!
Sear it in. Tattoo that unwanted feeling in your mind, remember how bad you felt about it, so that you wont forget that you swore to yourself never to be tied up in that shit hole again.
These aren’t fool proof but one thing is for sure: Worrying gets you nowhere!
